A report from PS Trevor Taylor via Hampshire Alert:

Over the weekend your neighbourhood police team have continued to engage with you in the community and the attached picture just shows how far and wide just the PCSO’s travel on their cycles!
Over just a couple of days those of them who use a well-known activity tracker have recorded some of their routes. Collectively they have cycled 251 miles and walked 16 miles. I am pretty sure that with the rest of the team along with all of the PC’s the distance is well over this.

We have met many of you during our travels and have been greeted warmly with a good understanding of what we all as a nation are working together to achieve.
I don’t doubt that the pressures on you as individuals is profound in some cases and you have all changed engrained habits. There are many positives too.

Over the coming weeks we must all continue to work together as a strong tolerant community and uphold the government and health expert’s advice and temporary law changes.

We are out and about keeping you safe. Please do follow the latest advice from our partners at Public Health England to keep yourself healthy. If you do need our assistance, please contact us on 101 or online via our website www.hampshire.police.uk In an emergency always dial 999.
You can report many matters online now and is the quickest and easiest way in most cases.

The guidance from The NHS is still the same

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/

Stay at home to stop coronavirus spreading

1. Everyone must stay at home to help stop the spread of coronavirus.

2. You should only leave the house for 1 of 4 reasons:

Shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine, which must be as infrequent as possible
One form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle – alone or with members of your household – To do this locally and not travel to other locations.
Any medical need, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person
Travelling to and from work, but only where this absolutely cannot be done from home
How to stop infection spreading

There are things you can do to help reduce the risk of you and anyone you live with getting ill with coronavirus.

Do

Wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
Use hand sanitizer gel if soap and water are not available
Wash your hands as soon as you get back home
Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
Put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands afterwards

Don't

Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean

Another helpful and informative link is from the government

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-information-for-the-public

Our team will continue to patrol the district so don’t be alarmed if we do ask questions about your presence as we must continue to adhere the guidance.
In most cases we will simply look to engage and explain, encouraging you where applicable to consider your actions and sadly where there are no other alternatives fines will be available.

Again from my last update you the community are still doing an amazing job of sticking together and looking after those who need it.
Sadly there does remain a very small amount of younger individuals who feel they can flout the restrictions and do what they want. Sadly the enforcement is likely to come your way first. I am sure many of the community would welcome this in some cases.

We have been asked again on many occasions about travel to locations to exercise or walk dogs etc
The government direction is – You can exercise outside but this should be from your home, locally.
Particular in the rural locations of Basingstoke and Deane there are vehicles parked in beauty spots and alike where persons are driving to do these activities – at the moment we are warning, this will change for those who continue to enforcement sadly.

On Saturday 28th March a 19 year old man from Basingstoke appeared at Basingstoke magistrates court after being charged the previous evening for damaging a police vehicle, common assault on two police officers by throwing gravel at them and spitting on a hospital bed and wall in the A & E at Basingstoke NHH on Friday night (27th March).
He was sentenced to a 20 week custodial sentence.
The officers are fine, and the police vehicle had to be taken out of service to be repaired.

Overall crime appears to have dropped as you would expect with the changes, closed shops, bars etc. with a slight increase in anti-social and domestic related matters. It is too early to get an accurate figure.

As I have already mentioned previously the rise in online crime is stark where you are being targeted in your homes in many ways. The use of text messages with spurious links, emails taking you to site where your details are stolen and other similar social media linked scams are being used.
My advice is that if you do not recognise it, feel it is suspicious or is asking for personal information then either ignore it completely and delete or ring the company in question on a number which you have sourced to enquire.
Just in the last few days the TV licensing scam text has been sent – which does appear very genuine asking or your bank details – it’s a scam.
Please be vigilant and if in doubt don’t do it.

This is a great link with a directory and help with scam advice and guidance.

I will continue to do my best keeping you updated with news and local neighbourhood matters.
